Queensburgh Primary School

•The tree is a symbol of life growth and prosperity.
•The palm tree is known for its resilience against the elements and provides shade for those around it.
•The open book symbolises learning and knowledge.

Queensburgh Primary School endeavours to serve the school community. We accept the vocational requirement of offering every learner quality education and developing the learners' cultural values and sport potential in order that he/she will be equipped for the demands of society.

From the Principal’s Desk

It gives me great pleasure as the newly appointed Principal to welcome you to Queensburgh Primary School’s website. I trust that you will find the journey enlightening as you search for answers to the questions parents generally ask when envisioning schooling for their children.

Queensburgh Primary School is a dynamic institution, evolving from a Pre-Primary institution in 1966 into a full Primary school in 2005 to incorporate all grades, from R to 7. We are a small institution with a population of just under 400 children. With our numbers growing year on year, I forecast a further growth in 2021. The benefit of this being the provision of personalized attention as our class sizes are small. Also, our teaching and learning moves beyond the mere transmission of skills and knowledge to incorporate a value-based education, so earnestly required for moral regeneration.

At Queensburgh Primary School we have a professional staff who are highly committed and passionate about their craft. As a result, elevated levels of care are demonstrated to ensure that every child is given individual attention to grow and develop to their full potential. The teachers make the children feel and know that they are the most important people in the school.

We have a strong belief in the promotion of holistic development. In this regard, we offer various cultural and sporting codes under the tutelage of a Sports Coach. Participation is encouraged as we do not promote a win-at-all- costs mentality. The well-being and happiness of all our children supersedes the participation of a few for winning accolades or trophies.

Queensburgh Primary is a school that offers personal and palliative care for our learners. We are one of a few schools that has Special Needs Education classes for Foundation and Senior phase learners. Although these classes are oversubscribed, our learners are given priority. Consequently, children that experience barriers to learning are directed to these specialist educators for intervention and remediation. In cases where the learning disability is corrected, these children are inserted back into mainstream education, while others follow a vocational pathway and transition into establishments such as Westridge High School.

The School Board of Governors are intimately involved in governance issues: Their central objective is the acquisition of Support Staff to maintain the plant in pristine condition; Educators to advance the academic goals of the institution; Security that ensures a safe space and Service Providers to upgrade the plant to high contemporary standards. In addition, they support the Management Team fully to advance the Mission and Vision of the school.

Education is an investment that will last a child’s lifetime, and we look forward to the opportunity of serving you. As teaching and learning is evolving all the time, we trust that you will take advantage of placing your child’s educational interest and sporting development in our capable hands. In conclusion, I would like to leave you with the words of John Dewey, the eminent Educationist and Philosopher:

“Education is not preparation for life, it is life itself”.

This belief captures succinctly the ideology that prevails at Queensburgh Primary school where the child is viewed as a lifelong learner.

Yours in education
